A 500 point Insertion Force

The Silver Skulls Insertion Force is called upon to perform missions where it would be inadvisable to commit a sizeable force, or the mission may be critical, but secrecy and stealth are required. Usually, this force finds itself alone and unsupported in the remotest regions of the battlefield.

The idea behind this army was to use the second edition static-posed plastics that I had and create a small force that I could use to play quick games. The army turned out to be a lot of fun to paint and play with.

The army list is very straightforward:

The force is lead by a Captain with a bolt pistol, close combat weapon and a combat shield. He adds a bit of close combat punch and serves as the HQ.

The Captain is joined by a 5 man tactical squad which includes four bolters and a flamer. These guys support and shield the Captain.

There are two additional tactical squads which are six members strong. Each contains 5 bolters and a flamer. These units serve to complete the organizational chart and can do just about anything asked of them.

Lastly there is a devastator squad with a sergeant and four missile launchers. This squad is tasked with eliminating the tougher opposition that the army comes across. The missile launchers give the squad the option of dealing with heavy armor and massed troops equally well.

I'll be posting pictures of the army as soon as I am able to.

A 1000 point Expeditionary Force

The 500 point Insertion Force was so much fun, I decided to expand the theme. I still had some left over models and decided to create a 1000 point army. In addition to second-edition static-posed models, I added a third edition land speeder that hadn't found it's way in the full army list.

This list is a little more varied.

The force is lead by a Captain with a bolt pistol, close combat weapon and a combat shield just an in the 500 point list.

This force contains a terminator squad with a heavy flamer. This squad draws a lot of enemy fire and with their armor save, can usually take it. They also have the ability to deal with enemy vehicles and other nasties that happen to get too close.

The Captain is joined by a 6 man tactical squad which includes five bolters and a flamer.

There are two additional tactical squads which are six members strong. Each contains 5 bolters and a flamer.

There are two scout squads. The first is five men strong and contains a heavy bolter. The second is five men strong. They will use infiltration whenever possible to flank the enemy and slow it's advance.

This list has the added ability of tank hunting thanks to the addition of the land speeder with multimelta. The 24" move also allows the land speeder to hang back in cover and quickly claim or contest a table quarter at the end of the game.

Lastly there is the devastator squad with a sergeant, five standard marines with bolters and four missile launchers.

Again, I'll be posting pictures of the army as soon as I am able to.
